We work from a psychosexual counselling framework.

This sits between medical care and traditional therapy, allowing time to understand your full context - not just symptoms.

Core Philosophy

We work collaboratively with clients and allied health professionals and use evidence-informed approaches. Much like a detective, we take a careful, curious approach to exploring patterns, nervous system responses and lived experience, offering tailored resourcing and support.

How we work

At Second Base we look at the full picture of your experience - not just the pain itself.

We explore how emotional, psychological, relational and sexual factors all intersect and shape your experience of intimacy and penetration.

Sessions may include:

– Understanding fear, anxiety or control patterns
– Exploring social and cultural conditioning around sex
– Working with nervous system responses like tension or shutdown
– Rebuilding safety and pleasure pathways
– Navigating communication and relationship dynamics

(and yes it is possible to have pain/discomfort free penetration with the right support).

Who We Work With

We support individuals and couples navigating challenges related to sexual pain, intimacy and pleasure.

Many of our clients come to us feeling confused, disconnected or overwhelmed by their experiences (often unsure where to start or whether change is possible).

This may include:

– Pain or discomfort during penetration
– Vaginismus or ongoing sexual pain
– Fear, tension or shutdown around intimacy
– Difficulty relaxing or feeling present during sex
– Changes in desire or arousal
– Anxiety or avoidance linked to penetration
– Relationship strain connected to sexual experiences

We work with women and gender-diverse clients in a confidential online space, supporting you at a pace that feels safe and collaborative.
